I’ve finally found out the reason for the criminal case against me.
To quote V. V. Timofeeva, investigator for the Meshchansky interdistrict branch of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for Moscow, I, ‘motivated by anti-Russian sentiments, displaying a disdainful, hostile and aggressive attitude to the executive and legislative bodies of the Government of the Russian Federation regarding the special military operation being undertaken by the armed forces of the Russian Federation to de-militarise and de-Nazify Ukraine, holding views based on a false understanding and acceptance of the ideology and practice of terrorism as an instrument for de-stabilising the authorities of the Russian Federation and influencing the decisions they take, and considering these views correct and in need of support and imitation, wishing to publicise these views and to disseminate the afore-mentioned criminal views to an unlimited number of people with the intention of justifying terrorism, being reliably informed of the popularity of the Facebook social media site, formed the intention to justify terrorism and the commission of acts of terrorism on Russian territory.’
‘Wishing to put into practice this criminal intention… on 12 January 2024, while residing in an unspecified location outside the Russian Federation and being a public figure, using the personal Facebook page ‘Sergei Davidis’…where texts can be posted and viewed by an unlimited number of people, as well as restrictions to access, using unestablished technical means, and having access to the Internet, being fully aware of the public danger of such actions, and foreseeing, the inevitable onset of consequences dangerous to the public in the form of the creation among an indefinite number of users of Facebook of the idea that carrying out terrorist activities is permissible’ I, according to investigator Timofeeva, ‘posted a text which read “Ukrainians Prosecuted for Army Service in the Azov Regiment are Political Prisoners” recognizing the actions of the Ukrainian armed forces, including those of the Azov (Ukraine) regiment, designated a terrorist organisation in the Russian Federation, and 24 people connected to its activities, as well as the commission of acts of terrorism on the territory of the Russian Federation, as correct and in need of support, approval and imitation.’
In this way, even though the pretext for my prosecution was a post on my Facebook page, what is at issue, in essence, is my human rights stance.
That the soldiers of the Azov Regiment are being prosecuted in absolute violation of the law and of all international norms is beyond doubt. On this matter there is no room for ambiguity.
Ukrainian soldiers prosecuted for defending their homeland from aggression are undoubtedly political prisoners, and the investigative authorities have written complete nonsense.
