Week-ending 9 July 2021

This week four members of the Pussy Riot protest group have again been sentenced to terms in jail. On 4 July Nika Nikulshina was again sentenced to 15 days in jail for ‘disobeying police orders’, just two days after she had been released from jail on a similar charge. On 8 July Mariya Alekhina was jailed for 15 days for ‘disobeying police orders’ and the same day Aleksandr Sofeev was jailed for 12 days for ‘petty hooliganism’. On 9 July Anna Kuzminykh was detained just days after she completed a 15-day jail sentence for ‘disobeying police orders’ and sentenced 10 days in jail, again for ‘disobeying police orders’.

RFE/RL, 4 July 2020: A Moscow court has sentenced a member of the Russian protest group Pussy Riot to 15 days in jail for allegedly disobeying police orders, just two days after she was released on a similar charge. Nika Nikulshina was detained late on July 2 in Moscow for expressing “gross obscene language” in a public place and refusing to cooperate with police, according to court documents obtained by the independent news website Mediazona.

RFE/RL, 9 July 2021: A member of the Russian protest group Pussy Riot has been detained again, just days after she completed a 15-day jail sentence for allegedly disobeying police orders. Anna Kuzminykh was arrested at the entrance of her house for unspecified reasons and reportedly needed an ambulance after falling ill, according to the independent news website Mediazona, which she contacted while being apprehended.
