Remember the Date: Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature on 8 October 1970

On 8 October 1970 Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature. Solzhenitsyn stated at the time: “I am grateful for the decision. I accept the prize. I intend to go and receive it personally on the traditional day as far as this will depend on me.” On 12 February 1974 Solzhenitsyn was deported from the Soviet Union. He accepted the prize in person on 10 December 1974.
