Remember the Date. Stalin’s body was removed from the Mausoleum on Red Square on 31 October 1961

On 31 October 1961 the body of Joseph Stalin, eight years after his death, was removed from the Mausoleum on Red Square where it had lain next to that of Vladimir Lenin and was reburied in the Kremlin wall. This was part of the de-Stalinisation programme by First Secretary of the Communist Party, Nikita Khrushchev. After his death on 5 March 1953, Stalin’s embalmed body had be placed in the Mausoleum next to that of Vladimir Lenin, the founder of the Soviet state.
